About the position of Cost Estimator
What to expect of the Cost Estimator position within Huisman?
As a Cost Estimator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate cost projections for various projects, contributing to the success and profitability of our organization.
You can expect a challenging position in an international project-based organisation. You will be part of a dynamic and professional company where innovation, quality, flexibility and creativity are key. As a Cost Estimator you are responsible for preparing the sales budgets for large newbuilt - and services projects for the worldwide Huisman organisation. To make budgets, you will work in close cooperation with the concept engineering and tender management. After finishing, your budget is used to determine competitive sales prices for our clients.
After a project is sold, you remain actively involved in the project execution for work budgets, project controlling assistance and variation orders.
At Huisman, you will be in close contact with our locations all over the world and you get the opportunity to follow the product from the drawing board to it actual being installed on board of a vessel at our own quayside.
You will work in a team of 4 to 6 employees. Flexible working hours are negotiable and there is a possibility to work from home 1-2 days a week. Working from home will be less possible during the 1st year, given your induction process. You will face an informal working environment where everyone is approachable.

What do we expect of you?
- Checking the information submitted by concept engineering and making sure the background of the design, technical solutions and innovations are clear.
- Checking for potential cost price savings in the design where possible
- Discussing the content of the offer and the quotation method with the relevant stakeholder(s)
- Cost Analysis: Conduct comprehensive cost analysis for upcoming projects sales proposals by reviewing specifications, materials, labour requirements, and other relevant factors.
- Estimation: Develop detailed cost estimates ensuring accuracy and reliability in projections.
- Project Support: Provide insight in workbudgets to project management, production locations worldwide and finance. Keep track of the project and give recommendations where needed. Develop costs estimates for project variation orders.
- Analyse data and lessons learned of finished projects
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, cost factors, and market fluctuations to refine estimation processes and enhance cost accuracy over time.
- Documentation: Maintain organized records of cost estimates, adjustments, and related documentation for future reference and analysis.

You are:
- flexible;
- someone who takes ownership of the budgeting process;
- a team player who can also work independently;
- familiar with project management principles and methodologies is a plus;
- a sense of accountability regarding the company's financial performance.
You have:
- a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- a proven experience as a Cost Estimator in a technical organization, preferably within offshore/maritime sector or heavy steel construction;
- strong understanding of technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents;
- excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy;
- effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams;
- attention to detail;
- affinity with both finance and engineering;
- the ability to adapt quickly to new requirements and to prioritise.
Some practical things we need you to have:
- An EU passport/valid work permit for The Netherlands;
- A good command of the English language verbally and in writing.
